# Using the Slack provider

The Slack provider uses Slack's MCP server. You need to provision a Slack app in your Slack workspace in order to use it.

### 1. Add the Slack provider

In your Coral workspace, add the Slack provider. In the Setup step, locate the **OAuth Application** section.

### 2. Connect your Slack app

**I already have a Slack app configured**

Find your Slack app's client ID and client secret. You can find them in the **Basic Information** section of your [Slack app's settings](https://api.slack.com/apps).

**I need to create a Slack app**

1. Click the link to **Create a Slack app** in Coral. This will open a new tab at [https://api.slack.com/apps?new\_app=1](https://api.slack.com/apps?new_app=1), with all the details needed to set up the app pre-configured.
2. Review the app's JSON config. This is the config [recommended by Slack](https://docs.slack.dev/ai/slack-mcp-server/#authentication).
3. Choose the Slack Workspace you want to add the app to, then continue through Slack's flow to either add the app to your workspace or request approval from an admin, depending on your permissions.
4. Make a note of your new Slack app's client ID and client secret, shown in the **Basic Information** section of your Slack app's settings page.

> [!NOTE]
>
> You can't complete adding the Slack provider to Coral until your Slack app has been added to your Slack workspace. If you have to wait for an admin to approve that, just come back here once it's done and repeat the instructions, this time following the "I already have a Slack app configured" branch.

### 3. Complete the setup

Enter your Slack app's client ID and client secret into Coral's provider setup screen, then click Next to continue adding the provider.

## Configuring your Slack app manually

If you don't want to use Coral's **Create a Slack app** link, you can create the app yourself, by following [Slack's instructions](https://docs.slack.dev/ai/slack-mcp-server/#authentication).
